150 Sunrises

150 Sunrises is a photography/devotional project by Jeremy Long.  At the end of a rather hectic, “cerebrally-intense” season of life, I’ve found myself needing some kind of a prolonged artistic project to balance myself back out…thus my very amateurish photog side decided it would be fun producing a sunrise time-lapse taken over the span of approximately 150 days.  This journey can be followed at http://150sunrises.wordpress.com

“But wait…,” I said to myself, “maybe there should be more to this.”  There’s more than a few  people I know right now who are in some of the darkest trials of their spiritual life.  Maybe this could be some kind of a tool for hope.

The prophet Jeremiah records some tremendous agony in the Old Testament book of “Lamentations”.  He’s witnessed the devastation of his homeland, and has seen with his own eyes some of the most horrific things humans can do to themselves, and to each other.   Yet, in the middle of this despair he gives this really poignant glimmer of hope:

Because of the Lord’s faithful love
we do not perish,
for His mercies never end.
They are new every morning;
great is Your faithfulness!
I say: The Lord is my portion,

therefore I will put my hope in Him.”  (3:22-24)

So, in that spirit, wherever you find yourself right now – I offer a new sunrise picture each day, with a promise of hope from the Scriptures.  I invite you to submit your own Sunrise pics, and your own favorite Scripture promises as well.   At the end of this journey I’ll present some kind of a tapestry of all these images and promises (I can’t guarantee the artistic quality, but I will do my absolute best).

Until then, I look forward to sharing these 150 sunrises of hope with you…

in HIM<
Jeremy
